You do not need to pay for solar upfront

Most of New Zealand's major banks offer green home loan top-ups for solar, typically up to $80,000 at around 1% p.a. fixed for three years. You roll the cost onto your existing mortgage, and for many households the power bill savings cover or exceed the extra repayment from the first month.

How it works

  1. 01

You get a quote from us.

  2. 02

You apply to your bank for a green top-up on your existing mortgage.

  3. 03

The bank approves it against your equity and lends at the green rate.

  4. 04

We install. Your power bill drops. The repayment is often smaller than the drop.

The eligibility gate nobody mentions

The major banks require the installer to be a SEANZ member for green loan eligibility. We are one.

This matters commercially. A cheaper quote from a non-SEANZ installer can quietly disqualify you from borrowing at around 1%, and the difference in interest over the loan term usually exceeds whatever you saved on the install. It is the most expensive way to save money in this category.

What the banks look for

  • An existing mortgage with that lender
  • Sufficient equity in the property
  • A quote from an accredited installer
  • Eligible equipment, which rooftop solar and home batteries generally are

Every lender differs. We can tell you what each currently asks for, but the decision is theirs.

If you do not have a mortgage

Green top-ups are mortgage products, so they are not available to everyone. If you rent, own outright, or have limited equity, there are still low-rate personal finance options, and our team will walk you through what is realistically available when they call. We would rather tell you honestly than promise a rate you cannot access.

What about government schemes

There is no government solar rebate in New Zealand today. Both major parties have proposed schemes for after the November 2026 election, but neither exists yet.
